Envirothon
The Annual Envirothon is a series of hands-on contests in which teams of five local high school students compete to solve environmental problems in five subject areas which include Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife, and a Current Issue. In addition, each team is required to give an oral presentation based on the current issue. The goal of the Envirothon is to incorporate environmental studies into the curriculum and expose students to career options in conservation. As students compete to make it to the state level, they develop practical skills such as research, teamwork and public speaking.

Progressive Ag Farm Safety Day™
Since 2000, the Lewis County Soil and Water Conservation District has hosted its annual Progressive Agriculture Safety Day TM for Lewis County 5th Graders. The purpose of the event is to educate children on the potential hazards that are found around the farm and home. This program also teaches the students how to incorporate the safe practices they learn into their everyday activities. Some of the workshops that the 5th Graders rotate through are Drug and Alcohol Prevention, Fire Safety, Water Safety, ATV Safety, Grain Safety, Animal Safety, Public Health, Mechanical Safety, Gun Safety and 911 Emergency Phone Procedures. This event would not be possible without the local volunteers who teach the workshops and chaperone the students as well as the area businesses and organizations who support this event through sponsorship.

FFA Land Judging
Each year LCSWCD organizes the FFA Land Judging Contest. High school students from Lewis County gather and rotate through several test pit stations that are previously dug on site. The students are then able to judge a variety of soils within different landscapes. In addition, an educational station is added each year with a different environmental focus.
